Responsibilities
This role requires a dedicated professional with a mastery of the financial close and a proactive approach to financial governance.
1. Full-Cycle Accounting and Financial Close Ownership (Primary Focus)
- Lead the Month-End/Year-End Close: Take ownership of the full monthly and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion, including complex journal entries, intercompany transactions, and accruals. - This is a non-negotiable requirement and a deal-breaker.
GL and Compliance Mastery: Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger, perform high-level reconciliations of complex accounts, and ensure all transactions adhere strictly to ASPE and IFRS.
AR/AP and Cash Flow: Oversee and review full-cycle Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes, optimizing cash flow management and performing accurate sub-ledger reconciliation to the GL.
Policy Development: Actively contribute to developing and documenting robust internal controls and accounting policies to drive efficiency and compliance firm-wide.
2. Advanced Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Statement Preparation: Prepare comprehensive internal and external financial statements, working papers, and supporting schedules in strict compliance with ASPE and IFRS standards.
- Deep Analysis: Conduct advanced analysis of financial results, including in-depth variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast) and KPI reporting, providing clear, actionable insights to senior management.
- Tax Leadership: Manage the preparation and filing of GST/HST returns, prepare year-end tax working papers, and seamlessly support external tax advisors with corporate tax filings.
3. Strategic FP&A and Leadership Support
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Act as a key contributor to the development, review, and consolidation of the annual operating budget and periodic financial forecasts.
- Mentorship: Act as a resource and mentor for junior members of the finance team, assisting with complex accounting issues and promoting best practices.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Collaborate effectively with the VP, Finance and departmental leaders, providing financial insights that support critical business decisions and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
To be successful, you must be a dedicated accounting professional with a drive for accuracy and detail.
-Designation is Mandatory: A CPA designation is required (or final stages of the program)
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in an accounting and financial analysis role, demonstrating leadership in the financial close process.
- Experience with year-end close is required
Technical Accounting Expertise:
- Deep, current, and verifiable knowledge of ASPE and IFRS accounting standards is mandatory.
- System and Tool Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling).
- Proven experience with QuickBooks and/or other ERP systems is highly valued.
Skills:
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills with keen attention to detail.
