The Architect will lead and oversee all phases of architectural projects, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, and consultant coordination. Responsibilities
Project Leadership: Manage and communicate project status, milestones, and deliverables to executive leadership and project teams at regular intervals.
Design-Build Collaboration: Partner with the internal Design-Build Team to ensure total project success as measured by client satisfaction, work quality, profitability, team professionalism, and seamless collaboration.
Strategic Problem Solving: Lead the Design-Build Team in identifying specific design objectives, resolving complex technical features, and engineering innovative solutions for unique northern environments.
Design Development: Direct the development of detailed design concepts and translate them into comprehensive design development and construction documents.
Quality Assurance: Oversee and actively participate in the preparation, review, and sealing (where applicable) of drawing packages for construction.
Consultant & Client Management: Lead consultant coordination throughout the project lifecycle and act as the primary liaison with Clients and Approving Authorities.
Regulatory Compliance: Perform and oversee Project Code Analysis, ensuring absolute compliance with the Canadian National Building Code and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Technical Quality Control: Review and edit drawings for Building Science accuracy, strict consultant coordination, and building code compliance prior to project completion.
Construction Administration: Conduct site reviews at critical project milestones, lead site meetings, oversee shop drawing reviews, and manage contract administration.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials: Professional degree in Architecture (M.Arch or B.Arch) from an accredited post-secondary institution. Registered Architect (or eligible for immediate registration) with a Canadian provincial or territorial association is highly preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of related experience in the production and management of architectural contract documents in Canada (with at least 2 years in a leadership/project architect capacity).
Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; familiarity with BIM/Revit and 3D modeling/rendering software is a strong asset.
Sector Expertise: Proven experience across Commercial, Residential, Institutional, Healthcare, and Hospitality building types.
Mastery of Codes: Advanced proficiency in Canadian National Building Code Analysis, Specification writing, Energy Codes, Building Science, and standard Canadian Construction Contracts.
Design & Execution: Superior conceptual design skills combined with a strong working knowledge of programming, planning, creative detailing, and complex building systems.
Project Management: Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Soft Skills & Communication: Well-organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while successfully guiding a multidisciplinary team. Excellent English verbal and written communication skills are required for client-facing presentations and technical reports.
Asset Qualifications: Northern design experience and familiarity with arctic logistics are highly valued assets.
