We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Data Architect/Modeller to lead the technical design, logical governance, and structural integration of data architecture in a complex, distributed enterprise environment. In this role, you will take technical ownership of defining data flows, access mechanisms, and common business vocabularies that align strategic business needs with long-term technology strategies. Operating at the foundational layer of data engineering, you will build upon technology-independent data models, guide complex migration frameworks, and author critical architectural artifacts to de-risk platform delivery lifecycles.
...
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite at designated Toronto offices, 2 days remote)
Duration: 8 months.
Advantages
Architectural Blueprint Ownership: Shape core data structures that remain entirely independent of specific application or technology silos.
Modern Integration Footprint: Advance your portfolio by blending traditional relational engineering with automated data distribution mechanisms and advanced metadata registries.
Strategic Governance Seat: Lead high-visibility submissions for formal architecture gating review boards within a mature enterprise framework.
Balanced Delivery Model: Benefit from a structured scheduling split that combines collaborative onsite presence with home-office autonomy.
Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Vocabulary Engineering: Design and implement the overall data architecture framework, establishing standard common business vocabularies and outlining high-level integrated designs that align with strategic business goals.
Data Modeling & Standardization: Build, refine, and enforce normalization standards across Conceptual and Logical Data Models (CDM/LDM), ensuring adherence to strict architectural quality guidelines.
Data Prototyping & Validation: Execute hands-on data prototyping pipelines to validate conceptual recommendations and support experimental proofs-of-concept during initial system phases.
Data Migration Strategy Blueprinting: Drive the architectural design, source-to-target mapping logic, and technical scoping needed to establish a comprehensive enterprise Data Migration plan.
Enterprise Architecture Artifact Governance: Author low-level architectural deliverables, models, and metadata definitions to guide solutions smoothly through formal technical review board evaluation gates.
Distributed System Modeling: Model data distribution rules, database placements, and optimization settings for multi-platform environments running complex relational and dimensional schemas.
Stakeholder Advisory & Requirements Elicitation: Facilitate deep-dive discovery sessions with business teams and IT professionals to capture information resource requirements and translate them into technical specification blueprints.
Qualifications
Core Data Architecture Seniority: Extensive, progressive professional experience defining enterprise data architecture frameworks and structuring data flows within distributed system landscapes.
Data Modeling Tool Stack Mastery: Expert hands-on capability utilizing industry-standard CASE design software—specifically ERwin, Visio, or PowerDesigner.
Conceptual & Logical Specialization: Deep technical proficiency building and refining application-independent Conceptual Data Models (CDM) and Logical Data Models (LDM).
Migration Strategy Blueprinting Toolkit: Proven experience formulating data migration roadmaps, running alpha data prototypes, and modeling dimensional/relational storage architectures.
Multi-Platform Technical Literacy: Demonstrated experience working across at least two different database technologies, operating systems, backend languages, and communication protocols.
Public Sector Governance Awareness: Solid background producing architectural deliverables, data standards, or visual mockups that align with formalized public sector information management principles and design systems.
Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical problem-solving, negotiation, and relationship-management capabilities, with a proven track record of delivering concise presentations to management and handling project triage challenges under tight deadlines.
Nice to Have:
Functional familiarity with digital accessibility compliance standards, including AODA regulations.
Practical understanding of object-oriented design patterns, middleware architectures, and secure gateway integrations.
