Responsibilities
As the Senior Payroll Associate, you will be responsible for a comprehensive range of payroll and accounting duties, including:
•Coordinating and overseeing payroll staff to ensure all semi-monthly processes are executed appropriately and on time.
•Operating as a subject matter expert, resolving issues, and continuously looking for operational improvements.
•Processing all essential remittances, including payroll taxes, to federal and provincial governments.
•Overseeing the semi-monthly reconciliation and balancing of all payroll earnings and deduction accounts.
•Preparing and processing journal entries, performing transaction analysis, and completing account reconciliations.
•Generating payroll-related reports and completing necessary analysis.
•Responding to payroll enquiries from employees and external organizations.
•Conducting payroll orientations for new employees and providing guidance to team members.
•Processing preliminary year-end balancing and reconciliations, and assisting the Payroll Manager with other year-end activities and special projects.
•Assisting/participating in special projects as required, including attending in-person meetings.
Qualifications
Must Haves:
•A College Diploma, Undergraduate Degree, or equivalent work experience.
•Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience.
•PCP or CPM designation from the CPA or an equivalent certification.
•Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation.
•Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills.
•Advanced communication skills, both written and oral.
•Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
•Mandatory ability to handle and use discretion with highly confidential information.
Nice to Haves (Assets):
•Experience utilizing the Workday payroll system.
•Knowledge of quality assurance and audit techniques.
