Responsibilities
- Manage full execution of inbound, outbound, and inter-warehouse transfer shipments across Canada.
- Book, dispatch, and track daily loads, oversee route planning and load consolidation to maximize equipment utilization and minimize transit times.
- Resolve operational bottlenecks, transit delays, customs issues, and freight claims in real time.
- Build, maintain, and manage long-term relationships with a reliable network of Canadian trucking partners and freight brokers.
- Negotiate contract rates, spot rates, fuel surcharges, and accessorial fees.
- Conduct regular RFPs/tenders to benchmark rates and expand carrier capacity across key lanes.
- Ensure carrier compliance with licensing, insurance, safety, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Analyze transportation spend across lanes, modes, and carriers to identify cost-reduction opportunities.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for transport partners (On-Time Delivery, Tender Acceptance Rate, Claim Ratio) and conduct quarterly carrier reviews.
- Work closely with warehouse operational teams to align pickup/drop-off schedules and prevent warehouse congestion.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Inventory, and Customer Service teams to provide shipment visibility and accurate ETAs.
- Additional, occasionally support coordination of ocean containers with our freight forwarding partners
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in freight management, transport coordination, or logistics within a distribution or manufacturing environment in Canada.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian transportation routes, freight corridors, winter logistics, and regional carrier capabilities (Ontario/Quebec hubs, Western corridors, Maritimes).
- Deep expertise in FTL, LTL, intermodal rail, and basic container drayage workflows.
- Proven track record of negotiating freight rates and managing carrier contracts.
