Responsibilities
· Designs new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilising processes based on established engineering principles to meet the customer and Railway requirements.
· Assumes the role of Work Package Manager as required.
· Contributes to a harmonious team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others.
· Develops junior team members of the department by mentoring and providing assistance, as required.
· Follows directions and work instructions, and uses good judgement in the performance of assigned work
· Effectively presents pros and cons for various courses of action.
· Tracks progress on all assigned tasks, verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately
· Responsible for the quality and integrity of the hardware designs and all related documentation
· Conducts technical reviews, and ensures changes are in line with objectives.
· Generates accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and provides supportable estimates for developments that are new to the department.
· Supports bids by defining technical solutions and reviewing the materials list
· Interprets, identifies, and documents requirements such that customer needs are met within the budget and schedule constraints.
· Ensures both the safety and quality of hardware products while reducing the deployment cost of those products. Contributes to the heightened reuse of product hardware and improvements in hardware quality.
· Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components or devices.
· Develops appropriate design architecture.
· Reviews any applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc. and ensures that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken
· Implements designs, using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines
Qualifications
Skills and Abilities: Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience
6+ years of experience in industry, including:
Cabling
Grounding techniques
Surge Protection
Electrical Engineering Principles:
Power circuits design
Electronic circuits including Microprocessors
Telecommunications circuits
Engineering tools:
CAD system (Autocad)
Multi-meter
Oscilloscope
Protocol Analyzers...
· Well developed verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity
· Proven track record in designing complex electrical or electronics products
· Well developed writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required
· Proficient in the skills, and current with the technology of the discipline
