As a Tax Specialist, you will be instrumental in the effective and timely completion of all requisite tax returns for complex Estate and Trust accounts. This is a crucial, hands-on role where your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining compliance and delivering exceptional service. You will primarily support day-to-day operations, ensuring seamless execution of critical tax functions, with the possibility of engaging in special projects. This is a 6-month contract with strong potential for extension or even conversion to a full-time employee, based on business needs and performance.

Responsibilities
-Compliance & Filing: Obtain all necessary information (internal, external, and client-sourced) to accurately prepare and file personal, Estate, and Trust income tax returns and required schedules.
-Technical Expertise: Act as a technical tax resource for the team, identifying post-mortem and other tax planning opportunities within complex accounts.
-CRA Liaison: Review assessment notices, prepare adjustment requests, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate requests, and correspond with the CRA to address information requests.
-Stakeholder Communication: Liaise effectively with internal Trust staff, external tax professionals, and clients to ensure all income tax filing requirements are met and complex taxation issues are resolved.
-Quality Assurance: Maintain consistently high service standards for quality, responsiveness, and timeliness across all deliverables.
-Team Support: Have the capacity to manage and train junior staff, contributing to the overall development of the team.
Qualifications
Must Haves
-Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of direct experience in an Accounting or tax-related role.
-Education: Completion of a post-secondary degree in Accounting or an equivalent field.
-Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with the preparation of:
-T1 (Personal) returns.
-T1 Terminal (Final) returns.
-T3 Trust and Estate returns.
-Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with Graduated Rate Estates (GREs).
-Tools: Proven experience utilizing tax preparation software.
Nice to Haves
-Professional Designation: CPA designation preferred, or actively working towards completion.
Soft Skills:
-Strong attention to detail and ability to take initiative.
-Excellent tax research and analytical skills.
-Ability to coordinate multiple activities and manage time effectively under simultaneous deadlines.
-Highly developed communication and exceptional writing skills, especially when interacting with clients and preparing detailed communications.
