Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and audit import/export documentation, including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading (BOL), Certificates of Origin, and Customs Entries.
- Determine and verify Harmonized System (HS/HTS) code classifications for all incoming and outgoing inventory items.
- Partner with third-party customs brokers to ensure timely customs clearance and minimize delays at border crossings.
- Monitor changes in international trade laws, tariffs, duties, trade agreements (e.g., USMCA, CETA), and regional regulatory standards.
- Manage daily inbound and outbound shipments across ocean, air, rail, and over-the-road (TL/LTL) freight channels.
- Coordinate dock appointments, container drop-offs, and warehouse receiving schedules with carrier dispatchers.
- Track shipments proactively, identify potential transit delays, and communicate updates to cross-functional teams (Sales, Inventory, Warehouse Ops).
- Negotiate rates and service terms with freight forwarders, carriers, 3PLs, and customs brokers.
- Evaluate carrier performance metrics (on-time delivery, damage rates, billing accuracy) through regular Vendor Scorecards.
- Review and approve freight and customs invoices, ensuring alignment with contracted rates and accurate cost allocation.
Qualifications
- degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3–7 years of hands-on experience in international logistics, freight forwarding, or customs compliance
- Demonstrated proficiency in HS classification, customs valuation, tariff schedules, and trade agreement documentation.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional accuracy in reviewing legal and trade documentation.
- Problem Solving: Ability to resolve unexpected border delays, route disruptions, or shipping errors under pressure.
- Communication: Strong cross-functional and external negotiation skills.
