Are you a hands-on Network Analyst who prefers physical rack-and-stack, cabling, and switch configuration over high-level cloud design?
Do you have direct, recent experience managing Fortinet (FortiGate) firewall policies and keeping high-availability networks running smoothly?
...
Are you looking for a dynamic, full-time onsite contract role in Ottawa where your daily work directly impacts mission-critical operations?
If so, this opportunity is built for you!
Position Overview:
We are seeking an operational, hands-on Network Analyst for a 6-month contract role (with strong potential for extension) onsite in Ottawa, ON. Working closely under the guidance of the Lead Network Analyst, you will serve as a key technical resource supporting day-to-day operations to ensure the performance, rock-solid security, and uninterrupted uptime of a high-availability enterprise network environment.
This is an active, on-the-ground role designed for someone who genuinely enjoys moving between physical hardware tasks and logical network administration. You will spend your days managing physical infrastructure (patching, cabling, telecom closets), executing switch port provisioning, managing routine Fortinet firewall rules, and keeping a close eye on system performance using SolarWinds. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same and you get to work directly with the hardware, we want to hear from you.
Advantages
Competitive pay
40-hour work week, Monday–Friday
Shift Flexibility (8-4, 9-5, 10-6)
Short term contract with longer term potential
Responsibilities
- Perform physical network maintenance, including patching, cabling, racking, and stacking hardware across telecom and server room environments.
- Execute daily port provisioning, VLAN assignments, interface configurations, and port-level troubleshooting on enterprise switch infrastructure.
- Maintain, test, and document physical connectivity and cabling layouts throughout the facilities.
- Perform hands-on firewall policy implementation, including rule updates, policy modifications, and object management within enterprise firewalls (Fortinet / FortiGate).
- Monitor protocol compatibility, troubleshoot VPN access, gateway rules, and user-access requirements.
- Monitor network security system logs (intrusion detection, firewall logs) for anomalies and report findings to IT management.
- Support daily operations across LAN/WAN, wireless access points, and Wireless LAN Controllers.
- Monitor environment performance utilizing enterprise monitoring tools (SolarWinds) to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Maintain real-time operations logs, update technical documentation, and escalate complex technical faults to senior leadership when necessary.
Qualifications
- A personal vehicle is required for daily commute to work.
- Demonstrated, recent experience carrying out physical patching/cabling, switch port provisioning, and firewall policy changes.
- Direct hands-on operational experience with Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls.
- Strong operational experience with enterprise switches (experience with Extreme Networks fabric/wireless is a strong asset).
- Experience utilizing network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds.
- Must be able to work 100% onsite in Ottawa, ON (M-F, flexible day shifts).
- Must be eligible to pass required site security screening and background checks.
