Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations
- People Management: Lead, train, and mentor staff while managing workloads and performance evaluations.
- Escalations: Act as the primary escalation point for complex shipment issues, documentation bottlenecks, and delays.
- Quality Control: Enforce SOP compliance, TMS data accuracy, and workflow standardization to minimize errors.
Vendor & Carrier Relations
- Partner Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with ocean lines, drayage providers, and terminals to secure capacity and priority service.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor vendor reliability and provide feedback to support strategic partner selection.
Finance & Continuous Improvement
- Margin Protection: Work with Pricing to validate routing and rates, resolving billing discrepancies and extra charges (demurrage/detention).
- Optimization & KPIs: Analyze performance metrics to eliminate bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive international freight forwarding experience, with a dedicated focus on ocean exports (FCL/LCL).
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership, supervisory, or senior mentoring role within a freight forwarding environment.
- Deep, end-to-end knowledge of ocean export operations, booking processes, AES/export filings, bills of lading (MBL/HBL), customs compliance, and port operations.
- Proven track record of managing supplier relationships and collaborating across internal departments (Pricing, Sales, Operations).
