We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Office 365 Solutions Architect for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will act as the principal technical expert driving the assessment, planning, and execution of a comprehensive data migration strategy from an OpenText Content Server platform to Microsoft SharePoint Online.
...
As the lead Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will bridge the gap between legacy content management data architectures and modern cloud-based collaboration ecosystems. You will provide technical guidance, architecture best practices, and hands-on operational support to ensure absolute data fidelity, preserved governance, and uninterrupted business continuity for all operational units throughout the migration lifecycle.
Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite or Hybrid options available in compliance with local policies)
Contract Duration: 6 months (with a 6-month optional extension)
Working Hours: 7 hours per day, 5 days per week (Standard Business Hours)
Advantages
Strategic Cloud Leadership: Act as the lead architect and technical authority on a high-visibility, enterprise-scale document management overhaul.
Complex Data Challenge: Gain elite experience engineering high-fidelity migrations handling complex historical versioning, URL link redirections, and strict metadata mapping without relying on third-party migration tools.
Flexible Work Structure: Benefit from a steady 35-hour work week with full access to hybrid workplace flexibility models.
Long-Term Continuity: Kick off a solid 6-month initial roadmap backed by a highly viable 6-month extension pipeline.
Responsibilities
Migration Strategy & Planning: Assess legacy Content Server usage to develop, lead, and execute a comprehensive end-to-end cloud migration strategy to SharePoint Online.
Information Architecture & Mapping: Lead pre-migration planning, site/library model standardization, content cleanup, and metadata mapping from legacy categories to modern SharePoint content types and managed metadata.
Data Governance & Fidelity: Ensure that original folder structures, custom versioning, deep hierarchies, audit trails, and complex user permission models are perfectly preserved throughout the migration process.
Technical Troubleshooting: Identify, resolve, and provide robust workarounds for technical migration bottlenecks, including deep folder paths, unsupported JavaScript/plug-ins, large list constraints, and legacy custom workflows.
Site & Workflow Engineering: Design, develop, and implement secure SharePoint sites, custom business workflows, mobile integrations, and automated scripting solutions for deployment.
System Backup & Auditing: Prepare immutable, versioned backups of legacy platforms to allow for continuous system restoration and audit compliance after old platforms are decommissioned.
Platform Administration: Provide ongoing user administration, technical oversight, and high-tier operational support across both active content platforms.
Stakeholder Enablement & Support: Partner with divisional administrators to configure user groups, coordinate site-by-site rollouts, and deliver warranty support to ensure smooth transition into standard operations.
Qualifications
Core Technical Competencies
SharePoint Mastery: 5 to 10 years of extensive technical experience in SharePoint administration, architectural configuration, modern user permission modeling, complex workflow development, and automation scripting.
OpenText Content Server Expertise: 5 to 10 years of experience with user administration and operational support of Content Server platforms, featuring deep knowledge of its data connectivity, extraction methods, and category/attribute structures.
Enterprise High-Fidelity Migration: Proven track record of leading large-scale data migrations without automated third-party software, requiring direct data structure mapping, long-path resolution, special character sanitization, and URL link preservation.
Compliance & Backups: Demonstrated experience creating immutable, versioned data backups within content platforms to satisfy strict business compliance and post-migration auditing.
Advanced Troubleshooting: Exceptional ability to isolate and resolve complex migration bottlenecks, structural data constraints, and unsupported script behaviors.
Leadership & Education
Education: A university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical discipline is preferred.
