Our client, a highly respected leader in the financial and insurance space, is seeking two Senior Quality Engineering (QE) Engineers / SDET Leads to transform and accelerate automated testing capabilities for their technology portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing highly technical, end-to-end automation frameworks spanning UI, API, and database/data validation layers.
...
This position operates on a hybrid schedule (2 days per week onsite). While candidates in Toronto are welcome, there is a strong preference for candidates based in Laval or Downtown Montreal to collaborate closely in the office with the local engineering team.
Contract Duration: June 15, 2026 – December 15, 2026
Location: Laval, QC / Montreal, QC / Toronto, ON
Language Requirements: French/Bilingualism is strongly preferred for Quebec-based roles, but English-only candidates with exceptional technical matching will be fully considered.
Advantages
High Autonomy & Rapid Impact: Our client has zero tolerance for slow delivery. This role is built for a self-sufficient engineer who can build frameworks quickly and showcase automated execution demos within the first two weeks.
Cutting-Edge AI-Assisted Stack: Leverage next-generation AI software engineering tools such as Windsurf and Devin to accelerate test asset generation, code refactoring, and execution.
Comprehensive End-to-End Scope: Own the entire testing infrastructure across UI, API, and complex database validation protocols, directly integrating your work into the enterprise CI/CD pipeline.
Responsibilities
Framework & Automation Engineering: Design, build, and maintain a highly technical, scalable, and modular automation framework. You will automate both sides: robust API automation (REST service regression, contract tests) and UI workflows using Playwright.
Database & Data Validation: Handle functional and non-functional database testing, writing automated validation and reconciliation scripts (SQL) to verify financial data flows and invariants.
Test Management & Traceability: Configure, optimize, and maintain test assets within Jira and Zephyr. Establish rigid standards for mapping user stories and requirements directly to test cases and automated scripts to create audit-ready execution evidence.
CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated regression and smoke testing suites directly into deployment pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins) to serve as automated release quality gates.
AI-Enabled Efficiency: Champion secure, reproducible usage patterns of AI coding tools (Windsurf, Devin) to build reusable QE templates, accelerators, and test-generation libraries.
Qualifications
Requirements:
7+ years of verified experience in Quality Engineering, Test Automation, or Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) positions.
Strong Programming Skills: Mastery of at least one modern language: TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, or C#.
Automation Tooling Expertise: Proven hands-on experience building UI and API automation frameworks with modern tools like Playwright, Cypress, or RestAssured.
Test Management Architecture: Deep knowledge of Jira and Zephyr for tracking execution cycles, metrics (defect leakage, pass rates), and mapping coverage.
CI/CD Platforms: Direct experience setting up and running tests within automated pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
Database Capabilities: Strong SQL capability to handle test data provisioning, validation, and complex reconciliation checks.
Nice-to-Have:
Prior exposure to financial software architectures, billing/settlement workflows, or regulated environments (domain knowledge is not mandatory, but highly valued).
Experience with test observability/reporting tools such as Allure or ReportPortal.
Professional certifications in Agile, Scrum, or Software Quality Engineering.
Summary
If you are an execution-focused Quality Engineer who views test automation as a discipline of software engineering rather than simple scriptwriting, this mandate is for you. We are looking for a technical powerhouse who can bridge the gap between UI/API and backend databases while moving at a swift delivery pace. Apply today to start the conversation!
