Position Title: Senior Accountant / Senior Tax Specialist (Manager, Tax Trust Services)
Location: Toronto, ON – Hybrid (3 days per week in-office)
Contract Duration: 6 Months with potential for extension or FTE conversion

Responsibilities
•Tax Preparation & Review: Accurately prepare and review complex personal, estate, and trust income tax returns, including T1, T1 Terminal (final), T3 trusts, Graduated Rate Estates (GREs), and Rights or Things.
•Compliance & Audit Defense: Review client accounts to ensure all reporting and compliance obligations are met on time. Review assessment notices, prepare adjustments, objection notices, and Clearance Certificate requests.
•CRA & Internal Liaison: Correspond directly with the CRA regarding information requests. Partner with the internal Tax team, Trust staff, and external tax professionals to explain and resolve complex taxation issues.
•Team Leadership: Oversee, review, and manage the workloads of junior staff, delivering training sessions and ensuring high-quality output.
•Workflow Management: Maintain a fully electronic working paper file system, utilizing Taxprep software and managing multiple overlapping compliance activities independently.
Qualifications
Must-Have Requirements:
•Experience: 3 to 5+ years of dedicated accounting or tax compliance experience, with a heavy emphasis on Estates and Trusts.
•Technical Tax Expertise: Confirmed hands-on experience preparing and reviewing T1, T1 Terminal, and T3 Trust/Estate returns.
•Specialized Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Graduated Rate Estates (GREs), their unique benefits, and associated post-mortem tax planning opportunities.
•Software Proficiency: Advanced experience working with Taxprep software and a proven ability to manage automated, paperless workflows.
•Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting or a related field.
•Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax descriptions and specialized Estate & Trust terminology clearly.
Nice-to-Have Requirements:
•CPA/CA designation (or actively working towards it).
•Current accreditation and good standing with STEP, CSI, or advanced tax compliance courses.
Summary
This is an exceptional contract opportunity for an estate and trust tax professional to step into a leadership-oriented capacity within a top-tier institution. This role is strictly focused on day-to-day high-volume operational tax files with no direct customer contact.
Qualified candidates must be ready to undergo a thorough multi-stage interview process, which includes a 15-minute initial screening, an intensive 1-hour technical case study test focusing on deceased taxpayer scenarios, and a final behavioral interview.
