Responsibilities
Minimize the income tax expense and exposure of the company with sound tax planning and sufficient backup documents to adequately mitigate risks and to well-substantiate the positions taken with a view to subsequent challenges from Federal and/or Provincial authorities.
Efficiently manage Tax audits and litigations with the objective of minimizing the Group’s tax expense, as well as BAT’s exposure to Canadian taxes.
In accordance with IFRS and internal reporting requirements, ensure timely computation and accounting of the tax expense and liabilities in the financial statements (with consideration for unusual transactions), and taking into account differences between profit for accounting and tax purposes, as well as the current versus long-term nature of the differences.
Timely comply with government filing requirements by reviewing and/or preparing Federal and Provincial income tax returns and ensuring that the numerous remittances are made within strict deadlines, with consideration for efficient cash flow management.
Provide tax advice to other departments and to management on specific transactions or on recent developments of the Income Tax Act
Responsible for the review and preparation of the transfer pricing contemporaneous documentation.
Work closely with the regional tax manager on audit and litigation matters, ensuring they are timely informed of developments.
Supervise, coach, and assist the Income Tax Analyst and ensure adequate development plans are in place.
Qualifications
6-8 years of relevant experience.
Relevant experience in Transfer Pricing is an asset.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
Excellent knowledge of Excel, Tax Prep, and a high comfort level with other Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent knowledge of tax library research tools (Carswell, CCH, etc.).
Knowledge of SAP modules.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance (most critical).
Professional accounting designation (CPA).
CICA in-depth tax course or Master in Taxation completed.
Knowledge of SAP modules.
Bilingualism (French and English) is required due to regular communication with internal and external stakeholders across Canada and internationally.
