In this role, you will take on a premier technical capacity across database engineering, solution architecture, and data operations streams, specializing in the design, implementation, and execution of large-scale infrastructure migrations and data management solutions.
...
As a principal technical authority, you will bridge the gap between complex physical database environments, enterprise data pipelines, and cloud-native applications. Operating within a hybrid model, you will provide critical hands-on leadership across core relational engines, design end-to-end data integration pathways, and embed strict cybersecurity and compliance frameworks into both on-premise and cloud ecosystems. This role is designed for a well-rounded expert who can navigate complex technical transformations and drive strategic, future-state system modernizations.
Location: Toronto, ON
Assignment Type: Hybrid (3 days a week in-office, subject to business discretion)
Contract Duration: 6 months (with a 6-month optional extension)
Advantages
Full-Stack Data Scope: Combine senior-tier database administration (DBA) infrastructure control with advanced data modeling and data pipeline engineering.
Multi-Cloud Stack: Deepen your technical footprint working across enterprise on-premise platforms and market-leading cloud environments like AWS and Azure.
High-Visibility Migrations: Drive the end-to-end architectural strategy for major data center database moves and comprehensive system version modernizations.
Modern DevOps Culture: Create, modify, and optimize business-critical pipelines utilizing active CI/CD automation tools and modern Agile delivery models.
Responsibilities
Database Infrastructure Migration: Provide senior-level database administration expertise to support the secure, seamless migration of database engines and dependent application frameworks from legacy hosts to a new data center.
Data Integration & Mapping: Develop scalable technical solutions to connect and integrate data structures across internal platforms and third-party systems, executing detailed data mapping for transactional and analytical applications.
Data Pipeline Engineering: Design, construct, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration flows utilizing both on-premise relational systems and cloud-hosted data tools.
Schema & Code Optimization: Create, update, and fine-tune complex database schemas, authoring high-performance stored procedures, functions, packages, and database triggers.
Architectural Blueprinting: Construct clear conceptual, logical, and physical data models while defining target-state solution architectures based on functional and corporate technology strategies.
Upgrades & Recommendations: Formulate data-driven recommendations for system modernizations, leading technical workstreams for system software upgrades, security refactoring, and data version changes.
Framework Compliance Guarding: Ensure all developed technical artifacts, data synchronization workflows, and security models meet strict technical, operational, privacy, and regulatory standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal database administrators and multi-disciplinary IT squads to align infrastructure changes with application dependencies.
Metrics tracking & Risk Management: Monitor, track, and report on work milestones, pipeline performance metrics, deployment schedules, and systemic infrastructure risks.
Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer: Provide active mentorship, structural documentation, on-the-job assistance, and dedicated knowledge-transfer sessions to team members to ensure long-term operational continuity.
Qualifications
Core Technical & Architectural Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
Leadership & Interpersonal Strength
Consultative Articulation: Outstanding communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with an ability to present abstract technical choices clearly to diverse audiences.
Problem Solving & Collaboration: Superior analytical troubleshooting capabilities and critical thinking, with a proven history of collaborating across multi-tenant development clusters.
