to modernized shared service models and hybrid Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP/MDR) operations. You will take ownership of coordinating technology modernization workplans, tracking cross-board deliverables, supervising vulnerability management tracks, and running incident response protocols while successfully bridging the gap between deep technical realities and executive-level governance.
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite, 3 days remote)
Duration: 12-month contract (with extension options through October 2027 and beyond)
Advantages
System-Wide Strategic Influence: Shape the foundational rollout, onboarding tracks, and crisis frameworks protecting the digital footprint of Ontario's K-12 education sector.
Advanced Orchestration Visibility: Gain extensive professional experience coordinating complex multi-tenant cloud security landscapes, XDR toolsets, and premium MSSP architectures.
Highly Consultative Profile: Expand your architectural resume by moving beyond siloed engineering into an authoritative, program-wide technical director role.
Long-Term Flexible Runway: Capitalize on a stable 12-month engagement with a balanced hybrid cadence and multi-year extension pathways.
Responsibilities
SecOps Program & Workplan Coordination: Oversee and track complex technology modernization workplans across multiple participating school boards—monitoring system dependencies, critical path milestones, and operational risks.
Hybrid MSSP Onboarding & Transition: Manage the transition from internal security operations to hybrid, shared service models; coordinate operational readiness assessments, baseline timelines, deployment onboarding guides, and go-live schedules.
Incident Response & Crisis Governance: Serve as the central coordination point for cyber incident response tracks—managing escalations, coordinating crisis communications, mapping incident metrics, and updating emergency playbooks.
Vulnerability Management Oversight: Direct proactive cybersecurity validation workflows, including vulnerability management (CVEM) scanning activities, remediation tracking, prioritization matrices, and executive vulnerability reporting.
Modern Architecture Sourcing Guidance: Deliver solution advisory, design guidance, and training strategies across next-generation frameworks, covering Software-Defined Networking (SDN/SD-WAN), SASE/SSE clouds (SWG, CASB, ZTNA, FWaaS), and endpoint security ecosystems (EPP, EDR, XDR).
SOC Telemetry & Metric Optimization: Establish and evaluate Security Operations Centre (SOC) KPIs, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and third-party vendor accountability metrics using SIEM and SOAR user-level instrumentation.
Threat-Informed Framework Mapping: Align defensive posture validations against enterprise classification frameworks, specifically NIST CSF v2, CIS Controls v8, and MITRE ATT&CK / D3FEND / ATLAS matrix topologies.
Regulatory Compliance Alignment: Ensure all system delivery roadmaps and shared service operations strictly comply with public-sector data standards (GO-ITS policies) and modern digital privacy statutes, including the Enhancing Digital Security and Trust Act, 2024 (EDSTA).
Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Liaison: Facilitate working groups, design workshops, and stakeholder forums to translate highly technical data parameters into concise, plain-language briefings for school board directors, senior executives, and ministries.
Qualifications
Core Technical Security Seniority: 5+ years of progressive professional experience designing, implementing, or coordinating secure enterprise network architectures and automation-enabled solutions.
Modern Network Stack Literacy: Functional understanding of software-defined networking architectures (SDN, SD-WAN, SASE/SSE structures) and cloud security platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments).
SecOps & Shared Services Fluency: Demonstrated experience supporting security operations, establishing incident response lifecycles, or coordinating onboarding paths with Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs/MDR).
Program Coordination & Risk Tracking: Proven background tracking cross-functional milestones, identifying deployment dependencies, compiling risk registers, and developing program-level KPI analytics.
Vulnerability Management & Tooling Familiarity: Practical exposure to automated patching systems, cyber vulnerability configuration concepts (CVEM), and monitoring suites (SIEM, SOAR capabilities).
Ontario K-12 Education Sector Domain Depth: Minimum of 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience working alongside Ontario K-12 school boards, specializing in regional network infrastructure and education-sector technical workplans is strictly required.
Executive Communication & Synthesis: 5+ years of experience preparing technical briefings, authoring playbooks, running multi-organizational workshops, and explaining complex technical parameters to non-technical leaders.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a matching technical discipline (Postgraduate credentials like an M.Sc. or Ph.D. are highly preferred).
Highly Desirable Assets:
Active industry-recognized security credentials, such as CISSP, CISM, or CCSP designations (additional certs like CEH, CISA, or CRISC are valuable).
Practical exposure to change management delivery frameworks or service improvement methodologies (e.g., ITIL baseline awareness).
