Responsibilities
Indirect Tax (Excise, VAT) – Canada
•Support the end-to-end compliance for Excise and VAT, including licensing, governance, payments, and classification for all Canadian entities.
•Ensure annual review and adherence to excise management processes, reflecting the unified RACI matrix applied across operating entities.
•Act as a point of contact for all indirect tax matters, including direct communication and dispute resolution with Canadian tax authorities.
•Coordinate with Legal and Supply Chain for product marking and customs-related issues as required.
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and provincial excise and tobacco tax requirements, ensuring all finished goods are tax paid and held in compliance with Canadian regulations.
•Lead the preparation, review, and filing of GST/VAT returns and payments, ensuring exception checks and reconciliations are performed and documented.
Audit Defense & Risk Management
•Support and lead audit defense for indirect tax matters, preparing documentation and evidence for internal and external audits.
•Ensure all SOx controls related to tax are operated and documented accurately, retaining evidence as required for compliance.
Direct Tax Support
•Assist in the preparation, review, and filing of corporate tax returns and provisions for Canadian entities.
•Support the calculation and timely payment of tax instalments and balancing payments.
•Collaborate with external tax advisors and internal finance teams to ensure accurate and compliant tax filings.
Governance & Reporting
•Ensure regular updates and completion of key tasks in tax process management tools.
•Participate in Tax Committee meetings, providing updates on compliance status, risks, and ongoing issues.
•Maintain professional relationships with external tax advisors and participate in relevant professional seminars and training.
Leadership & Team Development
•Supervise and Mentor: Directly supervise and mentor the Income Tax Analyst, providing regular feedback, guidance, and support to foster their professional growth.
•Development Planning: Ensure that clear, actionable development plans are in place for the Income Tax Analyst, tailored to their career aspirations and aligned with organizational needs.
•Skill Building: Identify training and development opportunities, encourage participation in relevant courses, seminars, and on-the-job learning to enhance technical and soft skills.
•Performance Management: Support regular performance reviews, set clear objectives, and monitor progress to ensure high standards of work and continuous improvement.
•Knowledge Sharing: Promote a collaborative environment by sharing expertise, encouraging open communication, and facilitating knowledge transfer within the tax team.

Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar tax management role, with a focus on indirect taxes in Canada.
Strong knowledge of Canadian excise, VAT, and corporate tax legislation.
Experience in audit defense and working with both internal and external auditors.
Proficiency in tax compliance tools (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across functions (Legal, Supply Chain, Finance).
Bilingualism (French and English) is required due to regular communication with internal and external stakeholders across Canada and internationally.
Our Client operates across Canada, and globally.
