Responsibilities
- Act as the primary management representative aboard the vessel to protect the owner’s commercial interests.
- Ensure the overall safety of the crew, onboard contractors, vessel operations, and cargo.
- Enforce environmental protection protocols and exercise overriding authority on safety and pollution prevention decisions.
- Perform duties in full compliance with maritime shipping regulations, national labour codes, and company policies.
- Maintain compliance with ISM Code requirements as well as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
Qualifications
- Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (preferred) or Master, Near Coastal Certificate issued by Transport Canada.
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical. General Operator’s License (GOC – GMDSS).
- Pilotage Certificate within designated pilotage regions (preferred).
- STCW Certificates of Proficiency: Basic Safety, Advanced Fire Fighting, and Survival Craft/Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats).
- Ship Security Officer Certification.
- Bridge Resource Management Certification.
- ECDIS training, with TRANSAS system proficiency (preferred).
- Marine Medical Care Certification (preferred).
