SAP Functional Consulting Specialist

As a principal functional authority, you will bridge the gap between distributed corporate accounting structures and centralized financial reporting systems. Operating within a hybrid work model, you will lead the rollout of advanced reporting templates to various agencies, boards, and corporations, ensuring absolute data consistency and alignment with complex public sector accounting standards. This role demands an elite consultant who can seamlessly configure ledger mappings, engineer intercompany reconciliation logic, build comprehensive closing cockpits, and provide strategic technical leadership to deliver unified, audit-ready consolidated financial statements.

Assignment Type: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote per week)

Contract Duration: 6 months (with two optional 6-month extensions)

Responsibilities
Financial Consolidation & System Configuration
Lead the architectural rollout of Group Reporting templates across distributed corporate entities to enable seamless year-end financial statement consolidation.

Design, build, and configure SAP S/4HANA Group Reporting parameters, establishing consolidation units, specialized groups, and document type variations.

Map local accounting ledgers to group reporting layers, establishing precise validation rules, substitution logic, reclassifications, and adjustment postings.

Configure consolidation logistics, including inter-agency/corporation eliminations, investment consolidations, and equity structures.

Update and refine the Preparation Ledger to streamline data release, field mapping, and structural verification between core modules.

Period-End Optimization & Public Reporting
Configure and deploy the Advanced Financial Closing tool, collaborating with financial teams to develop a unified closing cockpit for accelerated reporting.

Facilitate year-end closing activities, providing user guidance for executing consolidation tasks and resolving complex interface anomalies.

Develop specific financial reports and statement structures that strictly conform to Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) reporting requirements.

Design specific ledger views, including Statements of Financial Position, Operations, Remeasurement Gains and Losses, Changes in Net Debt, and Tangible Capital Assets.

Testing, Governance & Operations Support
Partner with Business Process Leads and vendor squads to inform the design, development, and integration of the SAP environment with external systems.

Author and update highly organized functional specifications, system design workbooks, configuration blueprints, and technical decision logs.

Provide expert support for the record-to-report (R2R) lifecycle, triaging support tickets, executing root-cause diagnostics, and managing defect resolutions.

Support project management offices in prioritizing post-go-live backlogs and validating proposed platform enhancements against industry best practices.

Qualifications
Core SAP & Functional Requirements
Enterprise ERP Tenure: 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in large project and program environments, implementing complex ERP tracks within public sector jurisdictions or large private corporations.

Full-Lifecycle Implementations: Proven track record delivering at least two (2) end-to-end SAP implementations, with a strong preference for at least one delivery within a public sector or municipal ecosystem.

Group Reporting Expertise: Extensive experience designing, configuring, and implementing SAP S/4HANA Group Reporting, specifically managing data collections, Preparation Ledgers, and complex intercompany eliminations.

Advanced Closing Tools: Demonstrated success executing at least two (2) end-to-end implementations of the SAP Advanced Financial Closing platform utility.

Cross-Module Integration Depth: High proficiency configuring and connecting related finance modules, specifically Project Systems (PS), Asset Accounting (AA), and Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO), alongside clear structural integration knowledge of FICO and Materials Management (MM).

Broad FICO Knowledge: Technical familiarity across wider module structures including Controlling, Accounts Payable, Funds Management, and Grants Management.

Professional Certifications: Active SAP Certifications in Finance – Group Reporting and/or Advanced Financial Closing are highly desired.

Financial Accounting & Governance Capabilities
Public Sector Accounting Standards: Solid working knowledge of PSAB requirements, structural asset calculations, and preparing financial statements in mandated regulatory formats.

Methodology & Quality Assurance: In-depth understanding of modern software test methodologies, traditional project management processes, and agile frameworks including SAP Activate Methodology or PMBOK principles.

Data Consolidation Acumen: Advanced capability to extract, profile, and consolidate financial data from highly fragmented, non-SAP external sources into a unified matrix.

Leadership & Soft Skills
Consultative Articulation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating exceptional confidence when communicating technical specifications across business partners, leadership, and external vendors.

Stakeholder Management: Elite interpersonal negotiation and consultative skills used to guide multi-disciplinary teams and maintain efficient communication between project stakeholders.

Analytical Problem Solving: Superior critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and data troubleshooting capabilities applied to option analyses and defect resolution logs.
