As a principal automation developer, you will bridge the gap between software development, DevOps practices, and quality assurance strategies. Operating fully onsite in Toronto, you will design and maintain test scripts, integrate AI-driven testing technologies, execute enterprise performance tests, and validate APIs, web services, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. Responsibilities
Identify strategic opportunities for test automation across software development and quality assurance lifecycles.
Design, build, execute, and maintain automated QA test scripts and scalable test automation frameworks utilizing tools such as Selenium.
Explore, evaluate, and integrate emerging test automation technologies, including AI-driven testing tools, to improve testing coverage and efficiency.
Design, script, execute, and analyze enterprise-level performance and load testing scenarios using LoadRunner.
Conduct functional and non-functional automated and manual testing across web applications, APIs, HL7-FHIR web services (REST/JSON/XML), and COTS platforms.
Validate security components, authentication tokens, and identity protocols including SAML and JWT.
Perform API and interface testing at the messaging layer using tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or custom programming scripts.
Execute accessibility testing across websites and digital content to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.0 and AODA standards.
Validate Business Intelligence (BI) reporting solutions, analytical dashboards, data integration pipelines, and complex SQL queries for data integrity.
Log, track, prioritize, and manage defects using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and TestRail, participating actively in defect triage sessions and sprint retrospectives.
Ensure test automation scripts and code bases are maintained under source control with full documentation and disaster recovery processes in place.
Partner with developers, software architects, and product owners to transform business requirements into comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and test cases.
Qualifications
Core Technical & Test Automation Requirements
QA & Test Automation Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience identifying automation opportunities, designing test automation frameworks, and executing automated test scripts using Selenium or equivalent frameworks.
Performance Testing: 7+ years of experience in enterprise performance testing, including scenario scripting, execution, and bottleneck analysis using LoadRunner.
API & Web Services Testing: Demonstrated experience testing APIs and web services (RESTful, JSON, XML, HL7-FHIR) using tools such as SoapUI, Postman, or custom code scripts.
Security & Accessibility Validation: Hands-on experience testing security components (SAML, JWT) and conducting accessibility compliance testing (WCAG 2.0, AODA).
Database & Querying Skills: Proficiency in writing SQL queries and using data retrieval packages to validate backend databases, ETL pipelines, and BI reporting dashboards.
Programming & DevOps: Knowledge of object-oriented programming languages, relational databases, and hands-on experience embedded within Agile/DevOps development workflows.
Preferred Experience & Assets
Public Sector & Healthcare Context: 5+ years of experience working with broader public sector or healthcare providers, with familiarity in enterprise architecture artifacts, gating processes, and project management methodologies (PMI).
