We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior DevOps/Cloud Engineer to lead the automation, infrastructure design, and environment orchestration of critical enterprise systems. In this role, you will bridge the gap between legacy on-premise infrastructure—including mainframe connectors, Unix/Linux servers, and middleware systems—and modern cloud architectures. You will build and maintain automated Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, write infrastructure-as-code (IaC) blueprints, configure complex networking and gateway controls, and implement GitOps practices to ensure absolute platform scalability, reliability, and security.
...
Location: Toronto, ON (Fully Onsite – 5 days/week required)
Duration: 11-month contract
Advantages
Massive Tech-Stack Breadth: Work in a highly diverse technical sandbox that seamlessly connects legacy mainframe networks with advanced serverless architectures.
Strategic Autonomy: Drive the implementation of modern DevOps pipelines, GitOps workflows, and immutable infrastructure patterns from the ground up.
Enterprise Cloud Footprint: Command complete design and engineering ownership over core container orchestration, virtualization, and network security policies.
Stable Onsite Collaboration: Capitalize on an immersive, 11-month onsite contract structure optimized for real-time problem solving and direct engineering alignment.
Responsibilities
CI/CD & Pipeline Engineering: Architect, configure, and maintain automated build and deployment pipelines within cloud ecosystems using continuous integration tools.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design and deploy scalable, cloud-native environments using declarative configuration tools, managing lifecycle states and automated environment provisioning.
Immutable Infrastructure Configuration: Create baseline machine images and configure server automation playbooks to establish consistent, repeatable, and secure application environments.
Middleware & Application Server Management: Handle the structural configuration, customization, capacity optimization, upgrading, and patching of enterprise application servers and data integration tools.
Legacy & Modern Systems Integration: Support legacy-to-modern platform architectures, ensuring data communications pathways remain highly available across Linux/Unix hosts and mainframe connection terminals.
GitOps & Version Control Governance: Govern version control systems, establishing branching and merging strategies, pull request workflows, and GitOps-driven deployment frameworks.
Network & Security Gateway Provisioning: Implement secure load balancers, virtual firewalls, and application gateway configurations to safeguard application traffic.
Performance Tuning & Disaster Recovery: Execute fine-tuning for virtual machines, optimize storage capacity, assist with database migrations, and establish highly resilient backup and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
Technical Design Review & Automation: Analyze system architectures, write custom automation scripts based on approved blueprints, and promote applications through test and production environments.
Quality Assurance & Post-Go-Live Support: Deliver active support during quality assurance testing cycles, troubleshoot deployment failures, and provide stabilization monitoring post-release.
Technical Knowledge Transfer: Author comprehensive technical runbooks and lead interactive walkthrough sessions to transition environment operations seamlessly to permanent internal staff.
Qualifications
Enterprise Systems & Mainframe Seniority: 10+ years of progressive experience managing enterprise systems, data communications, and telecommunication technologies, with specific expertise in RedHat Enterprise Linux V7+, UNIX Solaris V10, and Mainframe IMS Connect (Strictly Required).
Middleware & Data Integration Mastery: 10+ years of dedicated professional experience configuring, customizing, upgrading, and patching WebLogic V12, WebSphere V9, and Informatica V10 (Strictly Required).
Cloud & DevOps Tooling Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native environments and automated pipelines, with extensive toolset exposure to Docker, Ansible, Packer, Terraform, Azure DevOps Pipelines, and OpenShift (Strictly Required).
GitOps & Branching Strategy Fluency: Direct, practical experience using Git version control systems, managing branching/merging methodologies (such as git-flow), leading collaborative pull request reviews, and practicing GitOps (Strictly Required).
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Architecture: Proven experience writing and implementing IaC configuration templates and developing immutable server designs.
Infrastructure Security & Routing Prowess: Practical knowledge clustering load balancers, configuring network firewalls, and managing serverless environments, events, and application gateways.
Modern Development Stack Literacy: Experience supporting runtime applications built with Java/J2EE, Node.js, and Serverless architectures.
ETL Tooling Familiarity: Experience using data integration and workflow tools (such as Informatica PowerCenter Designer, Workflow Manager, and Workflow).
Soft Skills: Outstanding analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills, with an established history of presenting complex technical solutions to diverse team members.
