Our client, a top 5 bank, is looking for an Underwriter for a 6 month contract in Toronto. This is hybrid role - Only onsite 3/4 days per week while training. Afterwards only onsite during town halls. There is possibility of contract extension and convert to permanent opportunity.
Pay rate: $37.24/Hour
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 Hours/week, 9-5 Monday to Friday with some flexibility around starting and ending.
Overtime is required during peak volumes

Responsibilities
As an Underwriter, your duties will include but not be limited to:
•Supporting the review and approval of residential mortgage and real estate applications in a timely and effective manner.
•Negotiating, approving, declining and recommending applications, within established Company processes, guidelines.
•Gathering, reviewing and assessing information and documentation to support each credit application within Company risk parameters and Insurers guidelines.
•Handling, as required, correspondence and telephone inquiries from internal business partners and external business partners such as insurers, appraisers and solicitors.
•Reviewing, preparing and making considered recommendations to Manager or senior underwriter where residential mortgage application is above authority limit.
•Managing high work volumes to meet short time lines with a high level of quality and due diligence.
Qualifications
•2-4 Years Retail mortgage underwriting experience. Mostly residential Mortgages.
•Experience in reviewing and evaluating documents (income, down-payment, offers, etc..)
•Experience in exceptions rational (*they will be making exceptions themselves)
•Good Understanding of risk mitigation
•Excellent communication – written and verbal
•Attention to detail
•Strong Negotiation Skills
•Technologically Savvy
Nice to Have:
•Any broker or underwriting course experience
•Outlook and Excel skills
•A university Degree
•Familiarity with Canadian Rules and Regulation
