Data analyst jobs require a great deal of focus and discipline. As a data analyst, you spend a lot of time looking at databases, charts and other data. As a data analyst, you may report to personnel ranging from managers and directors, usually in the IT department of your company, to top level executives such as the CIO, CTO or even the CEO. Who you report to will depend on the industry you work in and size of company you work at.

As a data analyst, your company counts on you to accurately assess company data and report on your findings. You may analyze data pertaining to your company, its products and services, clientele, or any other information your company needs analyzed.

Data analysts spend the majority of their working hours assessing information, however interprersonal skills and communication may be required at times. training and certifications

It's possible to find a data analyst job with no formal training or degree, but your likelihood of securing a data analyst job increases if you have a background in IT. Though a four degree in a business or IT related field will lead to the best opportunities, a two year degree or a certification can also be helpful. If you plan to advance into supervisory or management roles after a few years, it's highly recommended you opt for a formal degree.

Some entry level data analyst jobs do not require prior experience, however it’s becoming more unusual, as growing numbers of people hold academic degrees and training certifications specifically related to this field. If your goal is to secure a data analyst job, you may want to consider internships or volunteer opportunities with nonprofits to build your knowledge base.
